An idea:

When the first wolf dies a mate arrives, and the game zooms out to a larger board and a new problem, which is not individual survival, but stabilizing a population.

Zooming out in spacial and temporal granularity, becoming more and more of a simulation. instead of bothering with individual piece moves we may have some other form of control, like a control panel that allows group commands.
