letter from Czechoslovakia

Dear Bernadette, Fances, Hank, Josephine, Verna, Mary, Frances Webb, Frank and Dorothy with all the members of their family, the Fridels in Ennis, the Juriks, the Marks, the Bergers and the Kadankas,
I am forwarding to you best wishes for Easter and spring. Don’t be angry with me please for not writing to each of you separately. I suffered an injury. I hit my eye against the piece of wood and now my eye is filled with blood. I put the salve on it but did not go to the doctor as on Saturdays and on Sundays, doctors do not work. I took care of tomatoes for 97 days. On December 23, of sew them and then transplanted them twice and when they were very high ( they were on the window of my room) I wanted to put them in the greenhouse. It was just the piece of wood that supported the tomatoes that caused me the injury. Nowadays it in rather cold. It is even frost, expecially during the night, I don’t know if tomatoes will survive. The temperature is 250 Fahrenheit. The top of tomatoes are brown. All of them froze, i.e. 35 shrubs of the height of 80 cm being in blossom. (I realized it after writing preceding lines).
My younger daughter Šárka started working again. Carolina is in the creche. In June Erika is finishing the 8th form and sitting for the entrance examination at the secondary medical (nursing) school. Alice’s child is 2 ½ months old. Tita got married 1½ months ago. Milo was again in Brno being some days with Šárka, some days with Jitka especially when she was painting her flat. We listen to the radio and watch TV to know what the news in the world is. In Texas there were floods. I believe that they did not touch you. I often think about the whole family and believe to see you again. We have a good president and the government. We hope that later on they will succeed in making our money to be convertible into dollars and other western currency. We also hope that we will have, sound foodstuff, good milk and vegetables and water to drink. That they will close the factories which contaminate our air. But it will take some years. Let us hope to live to see it. Feeling better I will continue writing again. I thank Ann Valenta for Easter card. my thoughts will be with all of you.
Love Jana and Krystyna
